2008 Festival of the Arts : The 2008 Town Festival of the Arts was a lively event celebrating art inspired by music. Special features included a music "salon" with performances from our Town community as well as a guest Gamelan ensemble. Our "Musical Chairs" interactive installation displayed a variety of musical genres both visually and aurally. Earth Day Celebration On Monday, April 14, Town School commemorated its first annual Earth Week with an all-school assembly. Students and faculty alike learned about simple steps we can take to sustain a healthy planet. To spread this message, some classrooms produced "Eco-mercials", short video clips promoting eco-friendly choices. Check them out here. Original Compositions from the 7th Grade Composition and Theory Class   The 7th Grade Theory and Composition Class has composed pieces in the key of G. In addition, the students have selected slides and/or text to best express their music. These compositions were presented to the parents on Tuesday, January 29th. (posted on Feb 1, 2008)

MLK Peace March  On Friday, January 18th 2008, Town School’s Kindergarten,
1st Grade, 4th Grade and 5th Grade conducted a peace march in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King from Town School to Fillmore Street and back. Many more came out to support our march through the neighborhood which was put together because his message of fairness and equality really resonates with our students. Halloween 2007  Town School celebrated Halloween on October 31st, 2007 with its annual Parade and Assembly in the Gymnasium. This year's costumes were a colorful menagerie of animals, celebrity inmates, geishas, and rockstars to name a few. To see more of the day's festivities please click here for a gallery of photos.

Dorian D Music Compositions from the 7th Grade Theory and Composition class The key of D Dorian was recently studied in Mr. De Tore's 7th grade Theory/Composition class. This beautiful key is built on the 2nd degree of a major scale. Students used the I, V and VII chords in the bass clef and built melodies using rhythmic motifs. We then set out music to images. Harmonic Minor Music Compositions from the 7th Grade Theory and Composition class The students in Mr. De Tore's Theory/Composition class have just completed their latest pieces. The harmonic minor scale was studied and then used to compose these original pieces. Images were then selected to express the feeling of the music. (posted on March 7th, 2007)

Kindergarten Martin Luther King Video. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, the Kindergarten went to Pacific Primary in January to participate in a peace march. Please take a moment to view our video which was created at this march and shared at the Black History Month Celebration.
