Diversity

Town School is a vibrant, supportive community dedicated to enriching the lives of all students, families, and staff. We are dedicated not only to educational excellence, but also and equally to the personal development of each child. The values of integrity, respect, consideration for others and compassion are as important as academic achievement. One of our core teaching values is the acknowledgment of and respect for differences in our community and the world at large. We constantly strive to create curriculum that reflects the diversity of our cultural history and place in the world.

Town School’s philosophical commitment to a diverse and inclusive school community is found both in its Mission Statement and in its Statement of Core Values. The school’s practical commitment to diversity and inclusiveness is found every day, in the many ongoing efforts of the administration, faculty, Board of Trustees, and parent body. Whether it be working to increase the diversity of our students, faculty, staff and trustees; developing multicultural curricula for classroom teachers through the Director of Curriculum; participating in conferences such as those put on by POCIS and WPC; providing resources for families who represent diversity; working to increase the socioeconomic diversity of the student population; or involving the school in the greater community on our Cesar Chavez Dia de Servicio, diversity and inclusiveness are always “on the table.”

Working together our community has made remarkable progress on our diversity goals, which are synthesized in our Diversity Mission Statement:

"Town School for Boys strives to be a school that actively embraces diversity, such that each boy and his family see themselves reflected in the school community.  Town is an inclusive community that creates a learning environment that prepares its boys to thrive and contribute in a dynamic world."

I invite you to read more about these goals and our efforts in our brochure, Building a Diverse Community at Town School. For a printed copy of the brochure, please contact Lynn McKannay (mckannay@townschool.com), Director of Admission and Tuition Assistance.

As the Director of Diversity, I work closely with the Admissions Office, faculty, parents, and students to weave diversity into the fabric of our community. I welcome your calls or e-mails regarding our diversity efforts. We are proud of all we have accomplished to date, while recognizing that building a diverse and inclusive school community requires ongoing thought, planning, and hard work.
