Foreign language study begins in the fifth grade and
all students take Spanish. Sixth graders are introduced to Latin in addition to the Spanish they began in the previous year. Beginning in seventh grade, they have the choice of continuing with both Latin and Spanish, or they may decide to take only one of those two languages for the next two years.
We believe that learning another language helps the student develop a better understanding of English and its grammatical structure. As the student expands his knowledge of other cultures and languages, he begins to have a new appreciation of his own culture as well as to discover similarities between nations of the world. The world becomes a smaller and a more familiar place as one finds ways to know and communicate with a variety of people from another culture.
